National Adoption Month
On October 29, 2021, President Biden proclaimed November as National Adoption Month. The proclamation acknowledged the need to ensure that every child can grow up in a loving and supportive home. The proclamation acknowledged the need for equal dignity and care for all children through improving efforts to keep families together, preventing the trauma of unnecessary child removal, and recruiting and supporting new adoptive families. In addition, the statement celebrated the families that have been made through adoption and also the dedicated professionals who have worked towards providing children and youth with forever homes. The Children’s Bureau, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, funds the National Adoption Month initiative each November. This initiative seeks to increase national awareness of adoption issues as well as bring attention to the need for adoptive families. Each year, the Children’s Bureau focuses their outreach efforts around a new theme.
